HOW DO I SHORTEN LEAD TIMES?
Lean Manufacturing, Tooling Investments Reduce Lead Time to 15 Days
Our customer is looking to improve lead time of six to eight weeks. The current supplier is unable to make the lead time shorter while facing quality errors and communication problems when handling the company’s products
We came up with a process using our Lean Manufacturing practices and worked with the customer to fully understand their needs and wants.
Our Customer Development team asked questions, made suggestions and maintained clear and concise communication throughout the entire procedure.
Engineering was able to come up with a more efficient manufacturing method to achieve the highest quality product while maintaining a shortened lead time.
This project allowed us to invest in customized tooling and fixtures to capitalize on our lean practices. Not only did we invest in the hardware to complete the job but we also added capacity in our shop to be able to handle fluctuating demand quantities.
Through our experience, we were able to decrease the customer lead time to 15 days and ensure the customer on-time delivery.
Shortened lead times were found by:
- Effective communication
- Thorough understanding of design and materials
- Tooling and fixture investment
- Implementation of lean manufacturing procedures
